Die Anlage wurde am 25. Juli 1997 nach 13 Monaten Bauzeit als Motopark Oschersleben eingeweiht. Es war die dritte permanente Test- und Rennstrecke Deutschlands, nach Nürburgring und Hockenheimring. Seither kamen der Eurospeedway und nach Umbaumaßnahmen auch der Sachsenring dazu.
Die kurvenreiche Rennstrecke ist in ihrer längsten Variante für den Automobilsport 3,696 km lang, die Motorradvariante ist 3,667 km lang. Eine verkürzte Streckenvariante mit einer Streckenlänge von 2,435 km kann über eine Kurzanbindung hinter der Hasseröder-Kurve realisiert werden. Diese wird allerdings nur von wenigen Veranstaltungen aktiv genutzt. Des Weiteren ist eine 1018 m lange Kartbahn und seit 2003 ein Offroad-Gelände an die Rennstrecke angegliedert. Auf der Kartbahn finden auch Supermoto-Rennen statt.
