Der Dogenpalast in Venedig war seit dem 9. Jahrhundert Sitz des Dogen und der Regierungs- und Justizorgane der Republik Venedig. Der Palast war Regierungs- und Verwaltungszentrum der Republik und zugleich Symbol der Größe und Macht der Seerepublik Venedig.
In den Anfängen der Republik kam wohl an diesem Ort die Volksversammlung, der arengo, zur Wahl des Dogen durch Akklamation zusammen. Nach der Entmachtung des arengo war der Dogenpalast Versammlungsort des Großen Rates, aus dem sich die Mitglieder aller Regierungsorgane rekrutierten.
