Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst de Leipzig es una de las escuelas de arte más antiguas e importantes de Alemania, fundada en el año 1764. Ofrece estudios en las ramas de "Pintura/ilustración", "Diseño y artes gráficas", "Fotografía" y "Arte mediático".
En 1764 se fundaron las Academias de Arte sajonas en Dresden, Leipzig y Meißen. El director de la "Academia de Dibujo, Pintura y Arquitectura" en Leipzig sería Adam Friedrich Oeser, quien comenzó las clases de dibujo con 23 estudiantes en habitaciones de su domicilio particular. Al año siguiente, la Academia traslada su ubicación al ala oeste del edificio Pleißenburg, donde permanece hasta 1890. La Academia de Dibujo está abierta a todos los estudiantes de la Universidad de Leipzig, oferta que también aprovecharía Johann Wolfgang Goethe.
