Die Saalach, früher auch Spielbach oder Salzburgische Saale, ist ein 105,5 km langer linker Zufluss der Salzach in den österreichischen Ländern Tirol und Salzburg und im deutschen Freistaat Bayern.Die Saalach entspringt in Tirol in den Kitzbüheler Alpen. Sie entfließt dem Torsee unterhalb des 2178 m hohen Gamshag im Gemeindegebiet von Jochberg, knapp 1 km westlich der Grenze zum Land Salzburg. Von dort fließt sie anfangs in östlicher Richtung durch das Glemmtal zuerst durch Hinterglemm, dann durch Saalbach nach Maishofen.
