Die Nickelhütte Aue ist eine moderne Produktionsstätte für reine Nichteisenmetalle wie Nickel, Kupfer, Kobalt, Molybdän, Vanadium und Wolfram. Sie ging aus dem historischen Blaufarbenwerk Niederpfannenstiel hervor, das 1635 von Veit Hans Schnorr in Pfannenstiel bei Aue gegründet wurde.
Der Industriebetrieb ist ein wesentlicher Bestandteil des Auer Ortsteils Niederpfannenstiel und nimmt eine Fläche von etwa 48.000 Quadratmetern ein. Er wird im Nordosten von der Clara-Zetkin-Straße begrenzt, im Osten von der Staatsstraße 255 und im Süden und Westen von einem Bogen des Schwarzwassers, in das direkt auf dem Werksgelände der Rumpelsbach mündet.
