Der Eisenbahnunfall auf der Firth-of-Tay-Brücke wurde durch die unter dem Zug von Edinburgh nach Dundee einstürzende Firth-of-Tay-Brücke am 28. Dezember 1879 verursacht. Vermutlich kamen 75 Menschen ums Leben.
Die erste Firth-of-Tay-Brücke war eine über dreitausend Meter lange Eisenbahnbrücke über den Firth of Tay, die der Ingenieur Thomas Bouch konstruiert hatte. Die eingleisige Brücke bildete einen Blockabschnitt der Bahnstrecke. Befahren durfte die Brücke nur der Zug, dessen Lokomotivführer im Besitz des „Token“ war, eines Stabes, den er nach Befahren der Brücke wieder abgeben musste. Da es nur einen solchen Stab gab, wurde damit sichergestellt, dass sich immer nur ein Zug auf der Brücke befand.
