Le RIOB est une institution scientifique du gouvernement flamand. Sur les parcelles d’essai autour de vous, ils cultivent du peuplier et du saule. Les arbres sont sélectionnés sur la base de:

• résistance aux maladies
•vigueur
•forme
• adaptation à notre climat
• Qualité du bois
Les meilleurs arbres sont ensuite cultivés à grande échelle pour être plantés dans toute la Flandre.
