Situé sur la commune de Plouharnel, le tumulus se trouve à plusieurs kilomètres au nord-ouest du bourg, au bord de la route Jean-Pierre Calloc'h .En octobre 1849, des ouvriers carriers découvrent le site. La fouille du site qui s'ensuit permet de découvrir une poterie contenant deux colliers en or, qui datent d'environ 2000 av. J.-C., c'est-à-dire du début de l'Âge du bronze, ce qui indiquerait une fréquentation tardive et une possible réutilisation du site.
