La basilique San Lorenzo est l'un des principaux lieux de culte catholique de Florence, situé sur la place du même nom dans le centre historique de la ville. Elle fait partie des églises qui rivalisent pour le titre de plus ancienne de la ville et a la dignité de basilique mineure. Elle comprend notamment des constructions ou œuvres de Filippo Brunelleschi, Donatello, Michel-Ange, Andrea del Verrocchio, Benozzo Gozzoli, Fra Filippo Lippi et Bronzino. Elle est accolée aux chapelles des Médicis qui contiennent les sarcophages de la Maison de Médicis, famille régnante de Florence.
