Il Teatro Civico di Brunico è stato fondato nel 1994 da Klaus Gasperi come teatro in un pub. Inizialmente ospitato nell'Hotel Brunico, il teatro cambiò sede più volte nei primi anni della sua esistenza. Nel 2006/07, l'attuale sede in Dantestraße 21 è stata rioccupata dopo una completa ristrutturazione. Da allora, lo Stadttheater Brunico ha messo in scena una decina di produzioni teatrali a stagione, comprese le coproduzioni con teatri amici provenienti da Austria e Germania. Oltre al teatro, vengono regolarmente offerti concerti jazz di musicisti di fama internazionale, cabaret, nonché eventi cinematografici e di discussione. Klaus Gasperi è stato responsabile della direzione artistica dello Schauspielhaus dal 1994 al 2020; dal 2020, Christine Lasta è il direttore artistico, Jan Gasperi il direttore tecnico.
