Het domein Solvay, dat oorspronkelijk deel uitmaakte van het Zoniënwoud, werd in 1893 aangekocht door de industrieel Ernest Solvay, die het gebouw van zijn voorganger opnieuw inrichtte.Hoewel het gebouw zijn huidige aanblik dankt aan de tussenkomst van Armand, de zoon van Ernest, is het Armands zoon Ernest-John die het park aanlegt en er een opmerkelijke schatkist van zeldzame planten en dieren van maakt. Het domein is voortdurend opengesteld voor het publiek en biedt eveneens onderdak aan de Stichting Folon.
