De parochie Moorsel is sedert 1965 zelfstandig. Voordien behoorde ze bij Sterrebeek en Tervuren. Begin 20ste eeuw eisten de dorpelingen, onder leiding van de gebroeders Coosemans, een eigen kerk. Ze hadden een plan voor een driebeukig neogotisch gebouw maar dat werd herleid tot één beuk.
In 1905 werd met de bouw begonnen. Een jaar later was alles klaar, zij het nog wat kleiner dan gepland. De schade uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd voorlopig hersteld. Pas in 1998-2002 volgde de definitieve restauratie. Nu staan de stoelen in ellips opgesteld ter versterking van de woorddienst.
Het Sint-Jozefsbeeld is een moderne versie van een oud verdwenen beeld. Moorsel is ook bekend voor de begankenis naar Sint-Cornelis. Opvallend is ook het Mariabeeld, 116 meter hoog. Achter de kerk ligt een Lourdesgrot.
