Het ligt ten zuidwesten van de stad Leeuwarden tussen Jellum en Weidum. De dorpskern ligt aan de noordrand van de Jorwerdervaart die er overgaat in de Wielervaart. In het oosten van het dorpsgebied stroomt de Zwette. In 2021 telde Beers 135 inwoners.Het vormt met Jellum een tweelingdorp, in de twintigste eeuw zijn de twee ook wat met elkaar vergroeid aan de Hegedijk waar de hoofdkern van Jellum samenkomt met een buurtje van Beers. De twee dorpen hebben ook samen een dorpsbelangenvereniging.
