Castle 'de Borrekens'
In 2012, film recordings were made in the beautiful castle of Vorselaar for the prestigious series 'Parades End', a series of HBO, BBC and Eén.
It is more than likely that the castle of Vorselaar originated in the early Middle Ages as a fortified fortress to protect the population of the seigneury against invasions from outside. The first appearance of the castle was created in 1356 when the 'master tower' was built, mainly intended for fortification. Little is known about the actual expansion of the castle.
In the Middle Ages, the castle was inhabited by the lord of Vorselaar, in the earliest times the lords of Rotselaar. Until the beginning of the 16th century, the castle remained in the hands of the lords of Rotselaar.
Eventually, after many years, the castle was sold to Jan De Proost. He was a very enterprising man. He laid out the vegetation around the castle and drew an oak avenue right through the undergrowth, of which the church forest is still a remnant. He also drained the marshes in the inner forest and took care of the restoration of the castle, which had fallen into disrepair due to the mismanagement of the Arenbergs.
Since 1911, the castle has been in the possession of the de Borrekens family, only to have been leased to a company a few years ago.
