Vreeland is a picturesque town that has retained its historic character well. The village originated in the Middle Ages around Castle Vredeland. This was built by the bishop of Utrecht to defend his territory against his increasingly powerful lord Gijsbrecht van Amstel. The town received city rights in 1265, almost 750 years ago. A detour through the village full of beautiful houses with gardens on the water, a 16th century church and cozy terraces and eateries is very worthwhile.
In Vreeland you can moor on the north side of the Van Leerbrug, maximum 3 x 24 hours. On the south side, only guests of restaurant De Nederlanden can moor. In the historic village you can go out to buy something tasty in the supermarket, browse around the clothing gift shops and the French brocante or to settle down on one of the terraces of the three restaurants in the village.
