Imstenrade is a hamlet south of Heerlen in the same municipality in the Dutch province of Limburg. The hamlet is located between Simpelveld and Benzenrade near the A76. Imstenrade derived from 'umsteinrode' probably means reclamation around a stone building. In the 14th century at the place where now is Imstenrade was the location of the castle of the lords of 'Emsenrode. The castle has disappeared in the course of the centuries, and in 1908 became a part of the grounds of the castle-like villa Imstenrade 'built along with a landscape from 1928. Shortly after the construction of the villa in the immediate area a farm and a water tower were built. The villa was for some time a monastery of the Medical Mission Sisters, but is now back in private ownership.
