El reino de los Astures o reino de Asturias fue la primera entidad política cristiana establecida en la península ibérica después del colapso del reino visigodo de Toledo tras la desaparición del rey Rodrigo en la batalla de Guadalete y la subsiguiente conquista musulmana de la península ibérica. En sus primeras décadas, la extensión territorial del Reino de Asturias se limitó a los territorios de la cornisa cantábrica y sus comarcas adyacentes. Con posterioridad, los reyes asturianos iniciaron una vigorosa expansión que a principios del siglo X alcanzó el río Duero.
