Le canal de Marseille est la principale source d'approvisionnement en eau potable de la ville de Marseille. D'une longueur de 80 kilomètres pour sa partie principale , il dessert l'intégralité des quartiers marseillais. Il a été construit au milieu du XIXe siècle en une quinzaine d'années sous la direction de l'ingénieur Franz Mayor de Montricher, amenant les eaux de la Durance dans la ville depuis le 8 juillet 1849. Il représente une réalisation marquante de l'ingénierie du XIXe siècle en cumulant de très nombreuses infrastructures, ponts, tunnels ou réservoirs.
