In kastelen en burchten zoals hier in het kasteel van Beersel, krijg je dikwijls spiraalvormige trappentorens. Heel dikwijls krijg je van gidsen te horen dat de draaitrappen linksdraaiend naar beneden en rechtsdraaiend naar boven zijn omdat dat makkelijk was om de burchten te verdedigen voor rechtshandige ridders en soldaten. Het is namelijk makkelijker om naar beneden te hakken als de trap linksdraaiend is, want dan staat de centrale steunzaal van de draaitrap aan je linker kant. En voor de aanvaller is het des te moeilijker. Klinkt logisch toch. Maar er blijken weinig bewijzen voor deze stelling te zijn. Op de website Fake History Hunter kan je lezen dat dit een mythe is.
