In het begin van 2011 donderde de klepel van de grote klok, gekend als Dikke Peter, uit de klok van de toren van de Dom naar beneden. De klepel van 800 kilogram veroorzaakte een enorme impact die zelfs werd genoteerd in het seismisch centrum van Bensberg. Gelukkig werd niemand gewond.
