Vanaf de Schaapsteeg kunt u links tussen de bomen de schoorsteen van het oude stoomgemaal van Mastenbroek zien. Dit stoomgemaal, ook wel "d' Olde Mesiene" genoemd, is van 1856 tot 1961 in bedrijf geweest en is enkele keren per jaar nog aan het werk te zien. Naast het oude gemaal is het elektrische gemaal Veneriete gebouwd, dat de werkzaamheden heeft overgenomen.
