Se situa a uns 15 km de Manresa, capital de la comarca, a la vall del Cardener, que travessa la població deixant a una banda el popular barri de Salipota i a l'altra la part més antiga del poble sota el promontori on es localitza el Poble Vell, edificat al voltant del castell en un espai estret i emmurallat, conserva tota la seva fisonomia medieval de carrers estrets, arcades i porxos.
