El vuitè districte de Lió és considerat la zona residencial obrera de la ciutat, influïda per la rica història del barri aportada pels germans Lumière a Monplaisir o per Tony Garnier al subdistrictr popular de Les États-Unis.El vuitè districte es va crear el 9 de febrer de 1959 com a separació del 7è districte de Lió creat anteriorment el 1912. Es considera un dels barris més populars i obrers de Lió.
