L'experiment de Schiehallion va ser un experiment científic realitzat al segle xviii per determinar la densitat mitjana de la Terra. Es va dur a terme a mitjans de 1774 al voltant de la muntanya escocesa de Schiehallion, al comtat de Perthshire. L'experiment, finançat per la Reial Societat de Londres, va consistir a mesurar les lleugeres variacions que patia un pèndol degudes a l'atracció gravitatòria d'una muntanya propera. Després de la recerca de muntanyes candidates, Schiehallion va ser considerada la localització ideal per fer-ho gràcies a la seva situació aïllada i la seva forma simètrica.
