El Columbia Plateau és una regió geogràfica de l'oest dels Estats Units situada en parts de l'Estat de Washington, Oregon, i Idaho. És un gran altiplà format per basalt situat entre la serralada Cascade Range i les Rocky Mountains, està tallada pel Riu Columbia. El terme Conca del Columbia es pot referir aproximadament a aquesta mateixa regió.
Durant els períodes del final del Miocè i principi del Pliocè, un dels majors fluxs de basalt que hi ha hagut a la Terra, hi va formar una gran província ígnea. El gruix acumulat de basalt va arribar a fer 1,8 km. L'escorça terrestre es va enfonsar i la subsidència de l'escorça produí un gran altiplà . En els llacs s'hi conserven molts fòssils incloent boscos petrificats.
