Wien er hovedstaden i Østrig og en af dens ni forbundsstater. Den ligger i den østlige del af staten, tæt på grænsen til Slovakiet, langs bredden af Donau-floden. Den er omkranset af forbundsstaten Niederösterreich. Med en befolkning på 1.935.000 mennesker er Wien den største by og kultur- samt politikcenter i Østrig. Storbyområdet har 2,4 millioner indbyggere, en befolkning der ligner byens i 1914. Det officielle sprog er tysk.
