Drongen er et knudepunkt for vigtige trafikårer: motorvejen E40, R4, riksvej 466, ringkanalen omkring Gent og jernbanelinjen 50A Bruxelles-Ostende. Denne jernbanelinje blev anlagt allerede i 1832. Her passerer hver dag dusinvis af tog til persontransport. Også den tætte godstransport til havnen i Zeebrugge finder vej her. På de to midterste spor bringes den kommercielle hastighed op på 200 km/t. Begge yderste spor er reserveret til godstransport og lokaltog. Gennem disse arbejder åbner der sig ukendte muligheder for godstransporten. Som følge af disse arbejder blev den gamle stationsbygning nedrevet i slutningen af 2010.
