I det 10. århundrede var stedet for det nuværende slot en borg omgivet af vand, som var en del af et bælte af befæstninger langs Schelde; kælderen fra det 15. århundrede og tårnet fra det 16. århundrede er de ældste rester; I 1981 blev slottet, den imponerende port, det gamle duerhus-tårn og den elegante hængebro over parkdammen beskyttet som monumenter. I dag bruges det som en venue for kulturelle aktiviteter (koncerter, udstillinger), møder og receptioner.
