Den ottekantede fejringstårn fra kirken har i mere end 500 år set ned på den rolige landsby.
Kirken har været igennem meget under Anden Verdenskrig. Kirketårnet er siden 1936 et fredet monument. Kirken i Middelburg har i store træk bevaret den plan og form, som den oprindeligt blev designet og bygget i mellem 1452-1458. Denne kirke rummer stadig mange kirkelige skatte.
