I 1865 lod J. Mengelle sit familie pension udvide bagpå. Arkitekten bag den nye neoklassiske fløj på den nyligt anlagte Koningsstraat var Léon Suys. Det blev et succesfuldt hotel. Datteren Marthe Mengelle og hendes ægtefælle Raphaël Devillers overtog senere ledelsen. I anledning af Verdensudstillingen i 1910 i Bruxelles besluttede ægteparret i 1909 at erstatte det eksisterende hotel med en mere prestigefyldt bygning. Det siges, at dette skete med støtte fra kong Leopold II. Det fornyede hotel åbnede sine døre den 2. juli 1910.
