Denne græsklædte bakke var engang 'Singelberg': herskerne af Beverens slot. Under den Trediveårskrigen dirigerede den spanske feltmarskal Alexander Farnese belejringen af Antwerpen fra dette slot. I 1585 underskrev den antwerpenske borgmester Filips van Marnix van Sint-Aldegonde her overgivelsen af sin by. Dette nederlag førte i sidste ende til opdelingen af Nederlandene.
