Schwalmtal er en landsbygd kommune i Kreis Viersen i Nordrhein-Westfalen, i grænseregionen med det nederlandske Middel-Limburg. Den blev dannet i 1970 som resultat af en fusion mellem de tidligere kommuner Amern og Waldniel. Kommunen har 19.012 indbyggere på et areal af 48,11 km².
Kommunen ligger mellem Niederkrüchten og Viersen, cirka 12 km nordvest for Mönchengladbach. Den udgør en integreret del af det grænseoverskridende Naturområde Maas-Swalm-Nette. Den lille flod Swalm flyder gennem dens område og munder ud i Maas ved den nederlandske by Swalmen.
