Taunusstein er med omkring 31.000 indbyggere og 10 bydele den største by i den sydhessiske Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis, ni kilometer nordvest for delstatshovedstaden Wiesbaden. Byens administration ligger i bydelen Hahn.
Byen Taunusstein blev dannet som følge af områdeomlægningen i Hessen den 1. oktober 1971 gennem den frivillige sammenslutning af de indtil da selvstændige kommuner Bleidenstadt, Hahn, Neuhof, Seitzenhahn, Watzhahn og Wehen. Med sammenslutningen fik Taunusstein tildelt byretter. Den 1. juli 1972 blev kommunerne Hambach, Niederlibbach, Orlen og Wingsbach indlemmes i byen Taunusstein på frivillig basis. Der blev dannet lokalområder med lokalråd og lokalformand for alle kommuner, der blev indlemmet i Taunusstein.
