Rothenfels er en by i den underfrankiske kreds Main-Spessart og et medlem af forvaltningssamfundet Marktheidenfeld. Den er, målt på indbyggertal, den mindste by i Bayern.
Rothenfels ligger til højre for Main mellem Lohr am Main og Marktheidenfeld. Indsnævret mellem floden og en stejl skrænt består byen af lidt mere end en hovedvej. Det topografisk højeste punkt i byens grænse ligger med 508 m over havets overflade på Dreßlingkopf, syd for Aurora, mens det laveste ligger i Main på 142 m over havets overflade. Siden 2006 har Maindamm, en del af den gamle og nedlagte jernbanelinje Lohr am Main – Wertheim, været brugt som omfartsvej.
