Kender du legenden om den berømte rottefanger, den piemontesiske fløjtenist fra Hameln? Ifølge Grimms eventyr førte fløjtenisten alle børnene ud af byen Hameln i 1284.
I starten var han en rottefanger ansat af myndighederne til at slippe byen af med gnavere, der plagede byens folk. Ved at spille en fortryllende melodi på sin fløjte lokkede han rottene ned til den nærliggende flod, hvor de druknede. Da borgmesteren nægtede at betale ham for denne tjeneste, tog han sin hævn. Ved at bruge samme metode fik han byens børn til at følge ham væk fra byen, aldrig at blive set igen.
