Rantzauer Sø ligger i byen Barmstedt i Landkreis Pinneberg i det sydvestlige Schleswig-Holstein. Den er knap 420 gange 280 meter stor, har et areal på 7,5 ha og er ikke dybere end tre meter.
I årene fra 1934 til 1938 blev søen på ordre fra nazisterne udgravet i hånden af Reichsarbeitsdienst. Vandstanden i Rantzauer Sø reguleres af opstemningen af Krückau, som forsyner den med vand. Denne indblanding i naturen og den dertilhørende afbrydelse af vandrestien for den lokale fiskeverden har i fortiden skabt problemer. Derfor blev der i 1981 bygget en ni-trins fiskeovergang ved dæmningen ved slotøen, som nu gør det muligt for fiskene at fortsætte deres vandring til de øverste gydepladser.
