Alfarnate er en kommune i Malaga-provinsen, Andalusien, beliggende i Axarquía-regionen, i den nordlige del af provinsen, grænsende op til Granada-provinsen, omkring 50 km fra Malagas hovedstad. Navnet på byen ser ud til at stamme fra det arabiske ord Al-farnat, som betyder 'melmølle'. Faktisk er der dokumenteret henvisninger til Alfarnate i det 10. århundrede som et område med stærk melproduktion. I den nærliggende by Alfarnatejo kan man stadig se to møller, der fungerede med vandet fra bækken, og som giver en idé om, hvordan dette område var i de tider.
