Stationen er beliggende under Diagonal Avenue, mellem González Tablas-gaden og Doctor Marañón Avenue, i distriktet Les Corts i Barcelona, i det der kaldes Zona Universitaria.
Stationen blev indviet i 1975 under navnet Ciudad Universitaria, indtil den i 1982, med omorganiseringen af linjenumre og navneændringer på stationer, blev kaldt Zona Universitària. Siden sin åbning har den været endestationen for linje 3, selvom den i starten var på Linje IIIB på grund af spændingsforskelle, der ikke tillod en fælles drift af hele linjen.
