La Coquille var på en af de fem ruter, der førte til Santiago de Compostela i Spanien, og det var i dette sogn, at pilgrimme fik en coquille Saint-Jacques, en kammuslingeskal, der symboliserer Vejen til Santiago, den berømte pilgrimsrejse til Santiago de Compostela. Fra denne kendsgerning stammer navnet på landsbyen La Coquille.
