Chiavenna er en italiensk kommune med 7.149 indbyggere i provinsen Sondrio i Lombardiet, beliggende i centrum af den homonyme dal. Kommuneområdet falder ind under Como bispedømme.
Navnet tager udgangspunkt i det prælatinske tema "clav", i sandsynlig reference til Sengio, det stejle bjerg, der dominerer byen.
Tidligere var det et vigtigt strategisk centrum i hjertet af Rezia, på vejen mellem Po-nedslagsområdet og Rhindalen, mens det nu er et velkendt turistmål, berømt især for sine crotti, den eneste i provinsen Sondrio, der har opnået anerkendelse af det orange flag fra Touring Club Italiano, et kvalitetsmærke for turisme og miljø, der tildeles små kommuner i det italienske indland.
