Kirken blev bygget i 1659 i barok stil, med "det kvindelige klosters internat" ved siden af, der blev bygget i 1684. Den blev udvidet og udsmykket i det 18. århundrede og restaureret igen i det 19. århundrede. Bygningens struktur er blevet forbedret i de seneste år for bedre at tilpasse sig nutidens behov.
Den 24. april 1647 grundlagde de fire kommunale embedsmænd et hus for omvendte eller flygtede kvinder ("omvendte synder"), for at undgå synd og fristelser fra djævlen. Denne institution blev kaldt "Søsterhuset for Botskaber" og skulle leve takket være almissen fra folk og i henhold til biskoppen af Mazara del Vallo; de blev tvunget til at udholde streng botspraksis og hårde kropsstraffe.
