Møllen blev bygget i 1822, sandsynligvis efter tegningerne af den tre år tidligere byggede højmølle Hermien i Harreveld. Møllen hed oprindeligt De Haan, men blev altid i folkemunde omtalt efter den nærliggende gård Het Teunishuis, hvorefter det nuværende navn opstod. Møllen blev restaureret i 1942. Efter køb af den dengangværende kommune Dinxperlo i 1986 blev møllen igen grundigt restaureret. Efter den kommunale sammenlægning er møllen ejet af kommunen Aalten.
