De Hortus Botanicus er en af de ældste botaniske haver i verden (1682), oprindeligt beregnet som en medicinsk urthave.
I Hugo de Vries-laboratoriet (1912) af arkitekt Joan van der Meij er der blandt andet i det dekorative murværk allerede genkendelige elementer fra Amsterdam School-stilen.
På Plantage Parklaan boede på nummer 9 arvelighedsvidenskabsmanden Hugo de Vries. Han fik sin egen indgangsport lige overfor sit hjem. Gennem den indgangsport har du direkte udsigt til Gunnera (en plante med mammutblade med en diameter på op til 2,50 meter).
Lidt længere væk ligger den smukke Palmenkas, som blev bygget specielt for at ære Hugo de Vries.
