In Brüssel findet man eine kleine Statue des Arztes und Wissenschaftlers Rembert Dodoens auf der Kleinen Zavel. In der Mitte dieses Platzes aus dem Jahr 1890 steht die Statue der Grafen von Egmont und Hoorn, die auf dem Großen Markt enthauptet wurden. Rund um Egmont und Hoorn stehen zehn Statuen bekannter Persönlichkeiten aus dem 16. Jahrhundert, darunter Dodoens. Wenn man die Namen auf den Statuen betrachtet, kann man feststellen, dass Brüssel im Jahr 1890 bereits stark französisiert war: Auf der Statue von Dodoens findet man nämlich den Namen Dodonée (französisch für Dodonaeus).
