Hier in der Nähe des Bahnhofs von Boortmeerbeek lagen im Ersten Weltkrieg deutsche Truppen. Während des Ersten Weltkriegs war der größte Teil Belgiens von deutschen Truppen besetzt. In Boortmeerbeek handelte es sich um Männer der Krefelder Landsturm. Der Landsturm war ein Korps von Reserve Soldaten, die im Alltag gewöhnliche Bürger waren. Weil sie weniger gut ausgebildet waren als die echten Stoßtruppen und meist auch schon älter, wurde oft über sie gespottet. In Boortmeerbeek waren sie am Bahnhof untergebracht.
