Diese Hügel sind die Cuesta von Waasmunster und werden durch die harte rupelianische Tonebene verursacht, die hier an die Oberfläche tritt. Dies ist auch der Grund, warum es hier bewaldet ist, denn diese Tonböden sind nicht ideal für die Landwirtschaft. Zu nass im Winter und zu trocken im Sommer.
