Das Sint-Alexiusbegijnhof ist ein Platzbegijnhof, der aus dem Jahr 1288 stammt. Die 61 Wohnungen, die sich um einen Grasplatz mit einer kleinen Kirche gruppieren, bilden eine Oase der Ruhe im Herzen der Stadt. Wie das Belfort wurde auch das Begijnhof 1999 von der UNESCO als Weltkulturerbe eingestuft.
Begijnhofmuseum
Um die Erinnerung an die Begijnen lebendig zu halten, wurde eine kleine Wohnung (Nr. 11 - H. Bonifatius) als Begijnenwohnung eingerichtet. 1975 starb die letzte Begijn, Großjuffrau Ernestine De Bruyne. Ihre ehemalige Wohnung (Nr. 25 - H. Begga) wurde als der zweite Teil des Begijnhofmuseums eingerichtet.
Volkskundemuseum
Das Begijnhof beherbergt auch ein Museum für Volkskunde. Auf drei Etagen und in zahlreichen Räumen erfahren wir hier mehr über das Haushalts-, Arbeits- und Freizeitleben vergangener Generationen.
