Im Herzen von Herentals steht die Lakenhal, der wichtigste Zeuge der reichen Vergangenheit von Herentals. Im fünfzehnten Jahrhundert errichteten die Wollweber und Tuchmacher die Lakenhal, um dort Handel zu treiben. Die ältesten Quellen erwähnen das „gulden huys“, „meethuys“ oder „loothuys“. Der letzte umfassende Umbau fand 2010 statt. Jetzt hat die Lakenhal eine soziokulturelle Funktion. Während Ausstellungen ist die Lakenhal frei zugänglich. An der Nordseite steht seit 1534 der achteckige Belfried. Der spitze Turm ist etwa 35 Meter hoch. Seit der Mitte des sechzehnten Jahrhunderts hängt im Belfried ein Carillon. Das heutige Carillon wurde 1965 gespielt. Der Belfried steht auf der UNESCO-Welterbeliste. Vor der Südseite steht das Bauernkriegdenkmal aus dem Jahr 1898. Es erinnert an die Schlacht bei Herentals am 28. Oktober 1798, eine der blutigsten Episoden aus dem Aufstand der Kempischen Bauern gegen die Franzosen.
