Nyon ist eine politische Gemeinde und Hauptort des gleichnamigen Distrikts des Kantons Waadt in der Schweiz. Die deutschen Bezeichnungen Neuis und Neuss stammen aus der Zeit der Berner Herrschaft und werden heute nicht mehr verwendet. Unter den Kelten hiess der Ort Noviodunos , während der Römerzeit Colonia Iulia Equestris.
Nyon liegt auf 403 m ü. M., 34 km westsüdwestlich der Kantonshauptstadt Lausanne und 22 km nordnordöstlich der Stadt Genf . Die Gemeinde erstreckt sich auf einer Geländeterrasse am Nordwestufer des Genfersees rund 30 m über dem Seespiegel, zwischen den Mündungen des Boiron und der Asse.
