Wipkingen ist ein Quartier der Stadt Zürich. Die ehemals selbständige Gemeinde Wipkingen wurde 1893 eingemeindet und bildet heute zusammen mit Höngg den Kreis 10.
Die Bezeichnung Wipkingen geht zurück auf den alemannischen Siedlungsgründer Wibicho. Der Ort ist urkundlich erstmals im Jahr 881 erwähnt, als Kaiser Karl der Dicke das Lehen des Fraumünster seinem Getreuen Wolfgrim vergab. Der Ort hiess früher Wibichinga, woraus sich Wipkingen entwickelte. Noch heute erinnert die Wibichstrasse im oberen Teil des Quartiers an Wibicho.
